MTV Fires Back Against Backlash Over The Scene Of Ryan Edwards Driving Under The Influence!
June 28 2017, Updated 3:52 p.m. ET
The season finale of Teen Mom OG left fans worried, horrified, and concerned over the scene of Ryan Edwards driving under the influence on the way to his wedding to Mackenzie Standifer.
In the scene, Mackenzie asked, “Why are you swerving?” Ryan slurred back, “My eyes, baby, in the sunlight I can’t keep them open.” She was seen hitting his arm as he continued to fall asleep and slur his words.
Mackenzie turned off the cameras installed in their car, but was heard asking, “Did you take Xanax again?” before adding, “You did.”

Fans were left furious over Mackenzie's decision to turn off the cameras instead of pulling the car over. According to RadarOnline.com, a viewer tweeted, “Why in the hell did Mackenzie let Ryan drive high as hell that like? I am so disturbed from seeing that." Another one slammed MTV saying, “Why didn’t @MTV tell @MacStandifer and @ryancedwards to pull over?”
An MTV spokesperson said to OKMagazine.com exclusively regarding the backlash the company was receiving from viewers regarding the scene, "MTV does not condone driving under the influence. Ryan’s erratic behavior was due to actions that he took without anyone’s prior knowledge.” In early June, it was reported that Ryan checked into rehab two weeks prior and resurfaced over Father's Day weekend on social media.
