Salma Hayek is one of the 15 faces on the cover of the September issue of British Vogue. The special edition was guest-edited by Duchess Meghan Markle. During an interview, The Hitman's Bodyguard star shared details of the secret phone call she received from the royal months before the shoot.
On Wednesday, July 31, the 52-year-old actress recalled to CNN the moment she was asked to be on the cover.
“I was in the car and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful said, ‘Listen, I’m going to put somebody on the phone. Are you in the car with people?’ I said ‘Yes,'" Salma began.
"He told me, ‘You cannot say the name of the person I’m calling,’” the Grown Ups actress continued. “Frankly, I thought it was a joke.”
The mother of one added that she and Edward are both “very good friends with Naomi Campbell.” Salma assumed he was just joking around and was going to put the famed model on the line.
Salma said that it took a while to get Meghan, 37, on the phone. "She got on the phone and introduced herself. She introduced herself and was very kind and loving and easygoing," she said.

“It took a while for the other person to get on the phone. Then she got on the phone and introduced herself,” Salma said of the former Suits star. “She introduced herself and was very kind and loving and easygoing.”
“‘I’m putting my favorite women on the cover. And you’re definitely one of them,’” the activist said, recalling Meghan's kind words to her. “I was like completely shocked. I did not see it coming that way. She started talking about how she’s been watching me and why me.”
Salma was not allowed to discuss the cover or the call to anyone. She was even prohibited from telling her daughter, Valentina or husband François-Henri Pinault.
Salma explained that the Duchess of Sussex was working on a “project in support of women” and wanted her to be a part of it.
