Shawn Johnson Shares The Emotional Moment She Welcomed Her Daughter Drew After 22 Hours Of Labor
Shawn Johnson is sharing an emotional moment with her followers. The Olympic gymnast, 27, and her husband Andrew East welcomed their first child together on Tuesday, October 29 and the couple gave fans a look into that tearful moment on Instagram.
Shawn shared a video on her YouTube channel on Sunday, November 10 that continued to document their experience in the hospital.
In the video Andrew, 28, comforted his wife, who was still in the hospital bed 22 hours after the gold medalist wen into labor. “What’s going on babe?” the football player asked his pregnant wife. Shawn, looking into the camera, explained that she was going to have a C-section.
“Let’s go meet our baby,” Shawn said while giving her husband a high-five. Andrew then explained to viewers why his wife was unable to give birth naturally. “Alright guys, so that baby was not moving,” Andrew said to the camera. “Shawn’s body was a little too small and her hips are too tight because of her past athletics. After they broke the water, they could only wait so long until she went back into the operating room to get a C-section. I’m realizing it’s a pretty significant surgery and I’m just sitting here praying for her. I know she is going to do great like she always does,” Andrew continued.

On Friday, November 7, Shawn revealed her newborn daughter name and birth date in a heartfelt Instagram post. In the snap, both Shawn and Andrew are seen kissing baby Drew who appeared to be smiling.
“Drew Hazel East / 8lbs 8oz / 20.5 inches long / 10/29/19,” Shawn captioned her post. Adding, “Named after the most incredible person I know … her daddy.”
Shortly before the gymnast gave birth, Shawn recorded an episode of Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner’s Hot Marriage. Cool Parents podcast. Shawn opened up about having a miscarriage two years ago. The athlete admitted that she blamed herself for losing the pregnancy even though doctors assured her that it was not her fault.
“I felt so sad and guilty that I had done something wrong to lose this child,” Shawn revealed. “I remember that just bringing me to tears because I was like, ‘How can you say that? ‘Cause I must’ve done something wrong.’ ” The Olympic star further went on to explain how she thought years of competing at a young age caused damaged to her body and that the miscarriage felt like a “payback”.
