'Siesta Key' Premiere Party CANCELED After Alex Kompothecras Receives Death Threats

MTV has officially canceled its Siesta Key premiere party at Cinebistro in Sarasota, Florida after a video showing two men dragging a hammerhead shark to its death went viral. Siesta Key star Alex Kompothecras is friends with at least one of the men in the clip.
Three women organized a protest, and at least 6,000 Facebook users rallied around them. Alex received death threats, prompting the network to cancel the premiere party.
Alex's father, Dr. Gary Kompothecras, confirmed the story to The Tampa Bay Times. "I wouldn't say that's the only reason," he said of the cancellation. "There are other reasons." The chiropractor, who funded the pilot episode of Siesta Key, declined to mention the other reasons.
In the disturbing video, two men can be seen torturing a shark by dragging it behind their boat and laughing about it.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Alex wrote, "I had absolutely nothing to do with the shark video," he wrote. "Yes he's a friend of mine, but no I don't agree with what he did. Check your facts before you go posting on my page. Thanks."
Last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the guys in the video and a spokesman said the agency wouldn't be revealing their names while they investigate. No charges have yet been filed, according to The Tampa Bay Times.
