The Modern Family star fought for three years to gain emancipation from her mother following her removal from her mother’s home in 2012 for allegations of abuse.

Since the age of 14 Ariel was under the care of her 37-year-old sister Shanelle Gray. Ariel considers her sister as more of a mother figure and says, “She’s the most important thing to me… I count on her more than anything.”

Amanda Bynes filed for emancipation from her parents and even threatened to kill them, according to reports. In a 2014 Twitter rant Amanda explained why she clashes with her father, listing reasons of verbal, physical, and even possible sexual abuse.

Drew Barrymore separated herself from her mother at the early age of 15. “I didn’t really have parents, you know?” says Barrymore of her upbringing. With virtually no family life, Drew spent time with her director and godfather, Stephen Spielberg.

Macaulay Culkin disputed with his parents over control of his earnings back in the late 90s and became emancipated by the age of 14. Finally out from under the control of his parents, Culkin married at the age of 17 and was later arrested for possessing 17 grams of marijuana. Mom can’t (more like won’t) get him out of this one!
