Summer Hair—Best Styles To Beat The Heat

Jan. 28 2015, Updated 6:40 p.m. ET
Summer fun brings with it a set of seasonal beauty obstacles like heat, humidity and chlorine, just to name a few, that frankly make me want to throw my hair in a ponytail and bury my head in the sand until fall. But this year I've vowed to challenge my usual summer style surrender by rotating these sweet looks through my beauty routine.
Top Knot

The top knot looks chic when you're lounging poolside during the day or hitting happy hour at night. And the best part is it's almost impossible to tell if you're having a bad hair day underneath it since your strands are pulled so tightly together. Start by brushing your hair up to the top of your head, securing with an elastic. Split the tail into two pieces, then wrap them around, tying them together once, and use bobby pins to keep the knot in place.
Beachy Waves

Beachy waves are lovely because they're sexy and...the messier the better! Get 'em by spritzing damp hair with a texturizing spray like Bumble and bumble Surf Spray, then allow your strands to air dry or apply low heat with a diffuser.

Covered Pony

Class up a low ponytail by starting a braid at the base. Secure with a hair elastic, then wrap loose strands around the elastic to cover for effortless elegance.
Fishtail Side Braid

A simple fishtail side braid with a little volume thrown in around the crown of your hair makes for an easy, romantic summer look. To create a fishtail braid, divide your hair into two sections, then take a thin section of hair from one side and bring it over to the opposite side. Repeat this step on the other section, continue until your braid is formed.
