Flat Hair: New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 made it clear the time for beachy waves was over in favor of flat or plastered down hair. Calvin Klein’s models sported severely flattened down buns with no part while sleek ponytails reigned for Ralph Lauren and the Prabal Gurung show offered slick hair parted down the middle.

Statement Brow: The hottest trend for 2015 is thicker, bolder eyebrows with a slight arch. And Rodarte makeup artist James Kaliardos accentuated brows by gluing silver rings along their arches as faux piercings at Fall 2014 New York Fashion Week.

Blunt Bowl Cuts: For his September 2014 runway show, designer Marc Jacobs outfitted the models in choppy black wigs sprayed for a dry look. The bowl cut hairdos were inspired by punk rock legend Joey Ramone.

Minimalist Nails: Just as makeup will be more subtle this spring, many also championed pale nails. Narcisco Rodriguez’s Fashion Week models walked the runway with clean nails with just “a slight blush—not too pink—with a peach flush,” explained manicurist Deborah Lippman.

Cat’s Eye: Eye-defining moves will never go out of style and Tina Turnbow, the makeup artist for designer Lela Rose’s show, created a smoky cat’s eye. And at Nanette Lepore’s show for Spring 2015, makeup guru Grace Lee dressed up a model with a dramatic silver cat’s eye.

Bright Pink Lipstick: Carolina Herrera’s models enjoyed flaunting pink/fuchsia lipstick at New York Fashion Week and celebrities are riding the new color wave. Diane Kruger has sported the shade and Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick and gloss in hot pink is the sexy new hue for 2015.

Contouring: Although the no makeup look was put forward for Spring 2015, contouring also had its time at last fall’s NY Fashion Week. Alice + Olivia makeup artist Sarah Lucero (for Stila) enhanced the fashion label’s Fench royalty Marie Antoinette theme by using a lot of highlighting products on the models’ faces.

Wild Eyes: Beauty risk-takers could be inspired by the models at Peter Som, who wore pop art ‘60s style bold red-orange lipstick—as eyeliner! Makeup artist Yadim was responsible for the jolt of color. “It really is just a brushstroke someone can do at home,” Yadim said.

No Makeup Makeup: Last year, designers let it be known the look for Spring 2015 would be natural. Style watchers saw a lot of fresh faces on the Calvin Klein Collection runway and completely bare-faced models at Marc Jacobs. Victoria Beckham’s show featured models in just a little pink blush and berry lip stain. Makeup artists patted clear lip balm onto lids and lips.
