The first photo from season three of The Crown is here! The show’s Twitter account released a still showing Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, a role she has taken over from Claire Foy, who played the famed monarch in the show’s first two seasons.
In the photo, Olivia sits in the dining room of Buckingham Palace, a cup of tea in hand. She wears a pink jacket accessorized with a strand of pearls, a brooch, and a small watch. Her hair is styled in the Queen’s signature short curls.
“Patience,” the Twitter account captioned the picture, which shows Olivia as the Queen looking straight ahead with a stoic expression.
In October, The Crown confirmed the series’ original cast would be replaced entirely going into season three to reflect the characters’ growing ages. Olivia, star of Broadchurch and The Night Manager, has replaced Claire, while Outlander star Tobias Menzies will replace Matt Smith as Prince Philip.

When the new casting was announced, Olivia said in a statement, “I'm so thrilled to be part of The Crown. I was utterly gripped watching it. I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius. She's an incredibly hard act to follow. I'm basically going to re-watch every episode and copy her.”
Claire approved of Olivia as her replacement. “I just love her. I admire her so much and the idea that we sort of will be doing the same job but not actually working together is just enough, I'm honored by that,” she said.
