During The Real, cohost Jeannie Mai wanted to know more about Loni’s inspiration for the title. “Loni, that’s such a dope title,” she said. “How did you come up with that?"
The comedian explained the meaning of the title to the audience. “The thing is, is that I wanted to, to really express,” she paused. “I’ve been through a lot in my life.” Loni became emotional and attempted to hold back tears. “And I want people to know that you can come from nothing, and you can turn around your life and you can be something.”

The audience applauded Loni’s inspiring message as she became choked up. “And this is why I implore all of you ladies, and people out there to write journals, write about your life,” she continued, “because when you look back on it, you’re like ‘I made it through! Lord got me through this!’”
Hachette Book Group called Loni’s upcoming book, “An inspiring, hilarious memoir about learning to resist the pressures of conformity, love yourself for who you are, embrace your flaws, and unlock your true potential. It explores “all of the embarrassing mistakes, terrifying challenges, and unexpected breakthroughs” that taught Loni how to “take control” of her destiny.
This isn’t the first book the comedian wrote. In 2014, Loni cowrote Love Him Or Leave Him, But Don’t Get Stuck With Him: Hilarious Advice For Real Women with Jeannine Amber. I Tried To Change So You Don’t Have To is slated for publication in May 2020.
