Loni Love opened up about a personal story on Tuesday, February 19, on The Real about how when she was still working as an engineer, she was discriminated against due to her hairstyle. She told her story during the "Girl Chat" segment, where she revealed that she was forced to wear a wig in order to find a job.
The 47-year-old shared her experience when she and her cohosts Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai were talking about the recent hair ban New York City has put into place. The ban is to ensure that no one can discriminate a person based on their hair.
"I wish this happened when I was an engineer...we could not have braids, cornrows, extensions or an afro," Loni said.
She continued, "I was wondering why I wasn't getting a job...My friend gave me a suggestion and said I should change my hair."

But Loni admitted that after she put on a wig, she felt different. "I saw how people looked at me," the Detroit native said.
But she's grateful that real change has come to New York City.
