Tina Fey Shares Creative Way She Lost 30 Pounds After Joining ‘Saturday Night Live’
Tina Fey is speaking candidly about her weight loss journey. During a recent interview, the 49-year-old confessed that she dropped 30 pounds after focusing on a diet plan that benefitted her lifestyle.
During her conversation, Tina shared that she lost the weight after moving to New York from Chicago. At the time, Tina joked that Chicago’s delicious food was the reason to blame for her weight gain. “I was in Chicago, and really enjoyed the food and the big coats,” she said to Entertainment Tonight.
Back in 1997, Tina moved to the Big Apple to become a writer at Saturday Night Live, where she was eventually promoted as the show’s first female head writer.
As part of her weight loss journey, Tina shared that she is aware of the foods that she intakes throughout the day. “I take a banana and strawberry and put frozen Cool Whip on it with a chocolate drizzle and tell myself it’s a banana split.”

In addition to her lifestyle change, Tina is also working on her next business move.
I wanted to do, I did them. I always wanted to work at Saturday Night Live, I always wanted to have a show, I always wanted to have children. And I did that. So I feel like I’m trying to be quiet, and take things in. And listen. I’m waiting for something inside me to tell me what the next thing is I want to do,” she said.
Tina is a mother to two daughters, Alice Zenobia and Penelope Athena, who she shares with husband Jeff Richmond. During a conversation with Vogue, the Mean Girls screenwriter joked that her composer husband was only fond of her jokes in the beginning of their relationship. "My sense of humor must have been part of what he liked about me," Tina said of her husband, 59. “Because, frankly, there wasn't that much else going on."
