Tyler's 'Optimistic!' Inside Baltierra's Battle With Bipolar Disorder

Tyler Baltierra isn't afraid to be honest, which is one of the many reasons why he's been a fan favorite from Teen Mom OG. During the reunion special, the reality star dad revealed that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while appearing on stage with his wife, Catelynn Lowell, and Dr. Drew. Many fans were quick to jump on Twitter and thank Tyler for being so open about his mental health concerns. A source close to the reality star opened up about Tyler's reaction to the diagnosis and how he's been handling it to RadarOnline.com.

“He mentioned in the past that he thought that maybe he suffered from bipolar disorder, but he wasn’t sure,” the insider told RadarOnline.com. “He’s talked about his mood going from super funny and goofy, which he’s known for, to his depressive phases. That was a red flag for him.”

The source claimed Tyler is not taking pills for the disorder because he “doesn’t want to depend on them.” “He's looking into holistic retreats and natural remedies to see how they work,” the insider said. He will also not be entering treat because "he definitely wants to be home with his family and not go away for any amount of time." Adding, “He is never opposed to therapy.”

On the second part of the Teen Mom OG reunion special, Tyler revealed his diagnosis which “felt like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders.” “He doesn’t know why he didn’t speak up sooner because although it did take time to fully understand, it wasn’t a shock,” the source said. “Him opening up wasn't planned, but he's glad he did.”

Tyler is staying “optimistic” and is “learning as much as he can” about the diagnosis. “Everything makes just makes sense now,” the source said. “He wasn’t even sure where his emotions were coming from before.”

Tyler had fans worried about his mental health when he recently tweeted, “Laying in bed next to my peacefully sleeping wife. I can hear my daughter snoozing away through the monitor in her room. My dog is cuddled up on the floor next to me… & yet I feel so empty… so alone.”

The last few months have been a roller coaster for the spouses. Back in November 2017, Cate entered rehab after having suicidal thoughts following her tragic miscarriage. She returned home shortly before New Years, but checked in for a third time in mid January for a six week program.
