Will Smith is ensuring that he leaves 2019 with a clean bill of health! While posting to Instagram on Friday, November 8, the actor, 51, shared exclusive behind the scenes footage of his colonoscopy examination, which took place at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center at the University of Miami.
After Will woke up from the successful procedure, he made a joke about wanting liquor as his first drink. “Do you want something to drink?” the doctor asked Will. “Yeah, Belvedere or Cîroc,” he said with a smile. Catching on to the joke, the doctor replies, “We ran out of that, I’m sorry.”
The Gemini Man actor appeared loopy from his anesthesia and needed help putting on his underwear. “It took me 3 hours to put my underwear on. The stuff they give you before a colonoscopy is... strong,” he wrote as his Instagram caption.
In his vlog uploaded to YouTube, Will admitted that he made a commitment to get his health in order. “2019, gotta get our health right,” he said. “There’s a certain amount of commitment and embarrassment involved with being healthy. Just gotta do it, man.”

A few days after his procedure, Will got a video call from Dr. Stanford who revealed that the polyp, which was found in the actor’s cecum, was determined to be a precancerous tissue. Luckily, Stanford removed it just in time. “Ninety-five percent of colon cancers arise from that type of polyp,” Stanford said.
“It’s important to me to be able to share this with people so, you know, other people can become compliant patients to stay healthy and happy to have all the glorious years we can possibly have,” Will admitted to his doctor.
This isn’t the first time that the Smiths have opened up about the importance of health. During an episode of Red Table Talk in September 2019, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will recalled staging an intervention for their son Jaden after he became unhealthy while practicing veganism. “Will and I had a bit of an intervention with Jaden because he’s a vegan now, but we realized he wasn’t getting enough protein,” the Gotham star, 48, revealed. Will added, “Jaden had the dark circles under his eyes, there was even a little grayness to his skin.” While speaking directly to Jaden, 21, Will said, “We got really nervous, but you are definitely looking better now.”
