Rachel Bilson is one of those girls everyone loves. Like, serious girl crush material. Whether she's playing shopaholic Summer Roberts on The O.C. or sassy Dr. Zoe Hart in Heart of Dixie, you feel like you want to be her best friend. Or go shopping with her, she is co-founder of the shoe design site ShoeMint. Plus, the girl is known for the best smoky eye in Hollywood, which is why I had to get the details on how to create it straight from her makeup artist, Joni Powell!
OK!: What's been your favorite makeup look Rachel's worn on the show?
JP: The sexy doctor! Because Rachel plays a doctor and her style is high fashion and sophisticated, it was fun to go over the top and play up all the shimmer and bronzer and of course the smoky eye she is known for.

OK!: Speaking of that smoky eye... What's the #1 trick to perfecting it?
JP: There are many products you can use, but my latest favorites are Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in 'Mirifique' and Cargo's TexasLash Mascara. The trick to perfecting a smoky eye is to not end up looking like a raccoon. Follow the natural shape of your eye, and apply product to the lid, up to the crease. What I love about the Chanel product is that its formula doesn’t leave messy black flakes falling onto the cheekbones. Next, apply the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in 'Gunmetal'. Finish with plenty of mascara, which builds incredible volume and individual faux lashes! I always love to pair a smoky eye with a pale lip and a current fave is Chanel Rouge in 'Coco Shine'.

OK!: We're in the middle of awards season—which celeb looks have you been loving?
JP: I thought Taylor Swift looked amazing at the People’s Choice Awards! Her brown smokey eye look enhanced her blue eyes and her light coral lip was divine. I also loved Julianne Hough’s less dramatic smokey eye variation that she rocked at the Golden Globes. And who can forget Miranda Kerr’s classic red lip. Wow!
OK!: What are three products you always carry around in your makeup bag, no matter what?
JP: Cargo ColorStick in 'Champagne,' Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment, and Chanel Concealer in 'Eclat Lumiere'.

JP: I started out doing music videos in the '80s, working with Glam Bands like Poison and and doing test shoots for Playboy. I eventually started working in film and television—my first big break was with Northern Exposure.
