Kate Spade Backstage Beauty at NYFW: Learn How to Get the Pretty Looks from the Pros
Spread your wings and book a flight! According to Kate Spade creative director Deborah Lloyd, the Spring 2014 collection is inspired by the traveler. And really, who wouldn't want to rack up air miles with a precious tote in hand? We ventured over to the Kate Spade presentation to get all the details on the model's 50s-inspired, girly, pink beauty look.
Makeup
Oh, my, my! That's one eyeliner look if we've ever seen one. Neil Scibelli for Jouer Cosmetics created this detailed black and white cat-eye look. "I personally drew from Sophia Loren for this kind of angled cat-eye," explains Neil.
To begin, Neil set the models skin with Jouer Matte Moisture Tint and Jouer Mattifying Translucent Powder. "It keeps your skin nice and matte for those hot days," he says.
This look is all about the eyes. Neil used Jouer Powder eyeshadow in "Praline" on the lids and then the Jouer Liquid Shimmer on top. He used a false lashes and black liquid eyeliner on the top of the lid.
To create the rosy, pretty-in-pink cheek look, Neil applied Jouer Peony Blush on the apple of cheek—a color that he says gives a "summery pop."
The gorgeous pink lip was apparently something the Kate Spade team was very specific with. He used the "Kate" Lipstick by Jouer to finish it off.

Stylist Tommy Buckett sent the models on their way with a textured topknot that was created using Garnier Surfer Putty and hair extensions. "What Kate Spade really wanted was the look of an off-duty model or something that is really easy and like, kind of fashion-forward to it," he says.
"We’re like basically grabbing into a knot like you would. Securing it, putting a little more puddy or dry shampoo, tying it around really quick and fuzzing up the hairline," explains Tommy.

Nails
This is a half-matte, half-glossy nail look. We caught up with Deborah Lippmann herself and she explained the look.
"With Kate Spade, we always do something that’s not too simple—that really has a graphic quality," she says.
To get the look, start with a base coat and then paint a coat of the Pseudo Silk Kimono matte nail polish on your nails. Use a coat of the Bad Moon Rising Nail Polish on your tips, followed by a strip of colored nail polish separating the new textures. And yes, the pointy-nail look is staying around.
"I definitely think we’re seeing even more stiletto this season than last season. I think so many of the music artists are really making that happen. So many of them that are wearing that super stiletto. Nails are continuing to be an accessory that should not be a last minute thing. It’s really a piece of the entire look," she says.
