Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his Massachusetts jail cell early this morning.
The NFL star was being held in a single cell away from the general population in the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center where he was serving a life sentence for murder. The 27-year-old jammed the door to his unit using various items from the room before tying a bed sheet to a window and hanging himself. Aaron was found by guards around 3:00 am, and was then transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later, ESPN reports.
The suicide comes just days after his acquittal on a double murder charge, however, he was already serving life without parole for the 2013 shooting of Odin Lloyd.
Aaron took his life on April 19th — the same day the Superbowl champion New England Patriots are set to visit the White House.
