ABC Casts First Black Bachelorette — Rachel Lindsay!
The wait is over!
Throngs of fans have waited with bated breath to learn which lucky lady will be cast as the next bachelorette. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be none other than Rachel Lindsay!
Rachel is a 31-year-old attorney from Dallas, TX, and her daddy is a federal judge. Rachel enjoys fresh beignets, followed by dancing and handholding. Oh, and she's black!
This is notable for the long-running series, which has never had a black lead in its combined 33 seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
While ABC has yet to formally comment on the report, the president of the network, Channing Dungey, has underscored the importance of bringing diversity to the franchise. "It’s worked very well for us because the audiences feel really engaged in choosing that candidate" she said. "What we’d like to do is broaden that. We need to increase the pool of diverse candidates in the beginning. That is something we really want to put some effort and energy towards."

Rachel became a frontrunner early in the show, receiving a first impression rose from bachelor Nick Viall, however, if she is becoming the next bachelorette, it appears things did not work out between her and the unlucky-in-love leading man.
