Billy Bob Thornton Says This Is Why He & Angelina Jolie Split

Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton’s marriage may have ended after three years in 2003, but according to the actor, the couple would still be together if it weren’t for this one thing!

While talking on the HFPA in Conversation podcast, Billy opened up about his and Angelina’s short-lived marriage. “I look at that as a great time,” he shared, even adding that the two are still friends.

“She’s a great person and she’s done so much. She makes movies that are important to her whether they succeed or fail, she still does what she believes in and I’ll always respect her for that,” he explained.

The actor also spoke about the couple’s necklaces, which were famously vials containing each other’s blood. “The necklaces were a very simple thing, ‘Hey let’s poke our fingers with a pen and smear a little blood on there and when we’re away from each other we’ll wear the necklace,’” he said. “It was that easy. But by the time it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.”

As for why their relationship came to an end, Billy said it was a simple reason. “We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So that’s really, that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together, maybe,” he confessed. “There was a different path in life we wanted to take.”

Billy Bob is now married to his longtime partner Connie Angland, with whom he shares 13-year-old daughter Bella.

Angelina is currently in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with Brad Pitt as they try to work out custody of their six children.
