Another celebrity talk show is hitting the small screen, but this one has a unique catch: the stars don’t know they’re on it! Brian Murphy, the host of MTV’s new series, Middle of the Night Show, ambushes celebrities while asleep in their hotel rooms. After performing a monologue in bed, they take New York City in the middle of the night!
Murphy chatted with OKMagazine.com to reveal five things you should know about the original show!
OKMagazine.com: Tell us about Middle of the Night Show.
Brian Murphy: We put up a celebrity in a hotel room and we tell them that we’re going to do something with them the next day, but then we ambush them in the middle of the night. We take them out onto the streets of New York to do a crazy talk show. We play games and we do street interviews.
OKMagazine.com: Can you reveal some of the celebrities who participated in the show?
BM: We had Jordin Sparks, Thomas Middleditch from Silicon Valley, Adam Pally from Happy Endings and The Mindy Project, The Miz, who is a WWE superstar, Anthony Anderson from Black-ish, Waka Flocka Flame and more.
OKMagazine.com: If you could pick a celebrity to come on next season, who would it be?
BM: Dwayne Johnson. I think The Rock would be amazing. I was always a huge fan growing up.
OKMagazine.com: You’re in NYC in the middle of the night, what was the weirdest thing that happened?
BM: We did a bit called, “what’s their phone number?” and we thought it was going to be really funny, safe and innocent. Nobody knows anyone’s phone number anymore so we went up and put people on the spot and asked them who the most important person in their life is and then ask them if they can recite their phone number. We were just in the worst area in New York. Guys with their shirts off ran into the first shot. In the second or third shot a guy pulled his junk out and tucked it between his legs and was screaming at us. We were just attracting nut cases like moths to a flame!
OKMagazine.com: Why should our readers check out the show?
BM: It’s unlike anything else out there. Talk shows are normally a little bit more buttoned down and with this everybody’s off the cuff. They don’t know what’s happening next. All of the games we’re playing, it really just puts them on the spot and I think you’ll really get to know everybody that’s on our show.
The series premiere of Middle of The Night Show airs Thursday at 11/10c on MTV.
