Actress Jamie Brewer Reflects on Being Honored With the ‘See It, Be It’ Award — Watch!
Such an inspiration!
Such an inspiration! Actress Jamie Brewer, known especially for her recurring role on American Horror Story, was recently honored with the “If She Can See It, She Can Be It” award at the Bentonville Film Festival on Saturday, May 11. The award recognizes Jamie’s work to support the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities on and off screen, as well as advocating for those individuals to be represented in a realistic way in the media.
“It’s a very humbling, very honoring feeling in being recognized for what I do and for who I am and showing, not just my work in the industry but showing my advocacy as well,” Jamie, 34, told Life & Style exclusively. “A lot of my advocacy that I do also shows within TV and film.”
Jamie then went on to explain how she actively helps and supports those in her community. “I’ve been helping quite a lot with where I live. I give advice to a lot of people not to be afraid of who you are, always using your voice to ask for help, even if you need it or not,” she expressed.
“Listen to the encouragement of friends and family, even though you may not agree with they’re saying, but to keep what they’re saying in mind because they are reminders.” As for challenges in Jamie’s career? She’s never heard of them! “I don’t let challenges become challenges,” she reasoned. “I see more opportunities than challenges.”
What an incredible mindset to have. It’s clear that Jamie is all about positivity within the industry and beyond. She even offered some sage advice for those struggling to break into the film and acting business. “Never be afraid,” she said. “Use your voice to ask for help if you need it — and listen to the heart of everyone around you, because they’ll surprise you.”
