Watch: Jessica Simpson’s Dad Breaks Down Over Cancer Battle
Ashlee + Evan is a series that follows the married couple Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross triumphantly taking on the music industry. However, last night’s premiere episode showcased a more serious and sobering issue.
Ashlee and Jessica Simpson’s dad, Joe, was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2016 and he recalled the experience during the episode. He told Ashlee, “I remember saying to the doctor, ‘What if I don’t have surgery?'”
He then admitted that his doctor didn’t sugarcoat the situation. Instead he said, “In six months, you’ll be dead.”
Luckily, Ashlee recently revealed in an interview with E! that her father is in remission. “It’s such a blessing. He’s doing good now and feeling good. I’m so happy he’s healthy now," she shared.
Though the Simpson family were fortunate to have Joe return to healthy spirits, Evan spent a few moments opening up about his own past last night. He revealed that he, on the other hand, had experienced the death of his father.

“My father passed away when I was 15 years old, climbing in South Africa, he had fallen,” he explained.
Presumably, watching his wife and her family deal with Joe’s diagnosis subsequently brought about some extremely difficult memories for him.
Ashlee + Evan airs Sundays at 10pm on E!
