‘He Was One Of The Most Evil’: FBI Agent Recalls Moment Feared Unabomber Was Caught

A former math genius and retired college professor, Ted Kaczynski became known as the feared US “Unabomber” after he began mailing bombs to seemingly random individuals with the motive of killing them for the greater good.

Living as a disheveled hermit in a remote cabin, the genius-level mathematician plotted a sinister decades-long campaign and sent out his intricately-built bombs to universities and airlines between 1978 and 1995. He also sent written manifestos on the problems of modern society and demand they be printed in the paper, following his deadly threats.

REELZ’s new docuseries, Murder Made Me Famous: The Unabomber, shines a light on Kaczynski’s creepy murder plan, secluded life and his bizarre motive.

“When you read his letters and you read the intent of what he was trying to do, it’s frightening!” U.S. Postal Inspector Paul Wilhelmus says in the show teaser.

As OK! readers know, the Unabomber eventually claimed he was trying to save mankind (from itself) with his bizarre murder plot.

“No matter what his reasoning… when you kill somebody like that, when you plan it, and when you pick out the individual that you wanna kill, you’re playing God,” adds FBI Unabomb Task Force John Conway.

Kaczynski’s wild crimes let the FBI on one of the longest and most expensive man-hunts in history.

“This is a case that went on for 18 years and it was a big mystery. It was completely unknown as to who was behind all of these bombings,” says Special Agent Terry D. Turchie FBI in the clip.

For decades, the world knew him only by his iconic police sketch. It wasn’t until the genius made a fatal miscalculation that his identity was finally revealed.

“In my 31 years as a criminal investigator in the FBI, he was one of the most evil people that I’d ever come in contact with,” concludes FBI Supervisor Donald Max Noel in the show promo.

Murder Made Me Famous: The Unabomber airs Saturday, April 28 at 8:00 ET/ PT on REELZ.
