Royal Suicide: Queen Máxima’s Sister Dead At 33
The Dutch royal family has been touched by tragedy. According to reports, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands’ sister Inés Zorreguieta was found hanged in her apartment in Buenos Aires. Local authorities “assume it was a case of suicide,” the Dutch Embassy in Argentina told La Nacion. She was 33.
Inés reportedly suffered from depression and mental health issues. She worked for the Argentinian government as an official in the Ministry of Development.
Inés was also godmother to Queen Máxima’s youngest daughter Princess Ariane, 11. The Queen has pulled out of all upcoming engagements and is expected to arrive in her native Argentina as soon as possible, Hello! magazine reported.
The Dutch Prime Minister called Inés’ death “intensely sad and heartbreaking.” “The sudden passing away of Queen Máxima's sister comes as a great shock. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Queen and her family,” he said in a statement. “I wish them all the strength they need to cope with this horrible loss. I trust that they will be afforded the space and privacy they need.”
