Watch! Seth Meyers Tells The Incredible Story Of How His Wife Gave Birth In Their Lobby
Seth Meyers is a dad, again! On Monday night, the Late Night host revealed that over the weekend, his wife Alexi Ashe gave birth to their second son, Axel Stahl — in the lobby of their building!
Seth recounted the incredible tale for viewers, sharing how his wife’s contractions went from 20 minutes apart to constant with no warning. In the midst of rushing out their building to catch an Uber, Alexi began to give birth right on the apartment building’s steps.
“My wife is saying, ‘The baby is coming. The baby is out,’” Seth recalled his wife telling him. “And I looked at my wife and the only way I can describe how my wife looked was, she looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants.”
“So we had to decide, do we go into the lobby or back on the elevator? Those are terrible options when what you’re looking for is a hospital,” Seth joked.
Ultimately, the funny man’s wife laid down on the lobby floor as he called 911, and neighbors helped by bringing the couple warmed up towels from their dryers to wrap the baby in. “I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, ‘We’re about to have a baby — we’re having a baby — we had a baby,” Seth shared. "I went from someone calling in about an emergency to sharing good news with a stranger."
Eventually, members of the FDNY and NYPD arrived, and Seth joked, “The amount of people that were in our lobby was insane.” He even shared pics showing his wife resting on the ground with their son on her chest, while firefighters gave her an oxygen mask.

Seth also explained the meaning behind his son’s middle name, which is in honor of his wife’s grandparents, who met in a hospital in Austria the day after being liberated from a concentration camp. The host got teary-eyed as he explained the story and his wife’s strength throughout the ordeal, joking, “I’m getting choked up thinking about how brave I was.”
