Tommy Lee Handcuffed To Bed During Mötley Crüe Tour To Keep From Cheating!
Rocker lived a life of excess even after marriage to Heather Locklear.
Mötley Crüe, with their hard metal songs and wild lifestyles, became one of the most popular bands of the 1980s. At one point, during the height of their fame, Tommy Lee immersed himself into the Hollywood crowd, and quickly became an even bigger star than his bandmates.
In 1985, Lee started dating Melrose Place star Heather Locklear.
She was a “hugely popular actress,” says Billboard Magazine’s Christa Titus in REELZ’s new docuseries, Mötley Crüe: Breaking the Band. “That also made him a celebrity beyond heavy metal.”
“Tommy all of a sudden becomes bigger than the band. That’s gonna affect the way others in the band see him. It’s gonna affect the power dynamics, to some extent, in the band,” says psychologist Dr. Linda Papadopoulos.
In 1986, Lee, 56, and Locklear, 57, got hitched — but that didn’t stop the musician from joining in with the band’s notorious hedonism.
On the “Girls, Girls, Girls” tour, he even had his bandmates “handcuff him to a bed” to keep him from doing something he’d later regret.
The stars’ ongoing search for excess lasted decades and was part of the reason they remained in the music spotlight for so many years. But eventually, that all ended in tragedy.
Mötley Crüe: Breaking the Band airs Sunday, June 16 at 9 ET / PT on REELZ.
