Petitions have been circulating Web trying to get Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie to marry each other. But Sesame Street is once again shooting down the marriage rumors.
"Bert and Ernie are best friends," the show wrote on their Facebook page. "They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves."
While they may be associated on the show as male, Sesame Street wants to make it clear that they are just puppets — for those who forget.
"Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
