So the question we ask is, what can Jewel not do? Singer, songwriter, four-time Grammy nominee, actress, poet, wife and now mommy-to-be and TV show host, Jewel has got a lot on her plate. She’s keeping that plate healthy and encouraging others to do it too! Jewel chatted with OK! to tell us all about her newest campaign and catch up on what she’s been up to!
Jewel has teamed up with Libby’s Fruits and Vegetables to encourage American families to spend quality time at the family table. Jewel is also challenging America to channel their inner creativity and re-make the iconic Libby’s jingle that will be heard nationwide and be awarded a grand prize of $10,000!
As an expecting mom who is a superstar, Jewel is passionate about teaching her son to eat healthy and keeping time for family meals.
“They’ve done a lot of research, kids who eat at a dinner table with their families are healthier and have more self esteem and are more likely to do better in school.” Jewel tells OK!. “It’s a small thing but it actually has a big impact on a child, definitely being a new mom you start to think about that.”
Being an Alaskan native, Jewel has a huge appreciation for fruits and vegetables!
“Libby’s has a really wide variety of fruits and vegetables. For somebody like me who was raised in Alaska where we can’t get fresh fruits and vegetables year round, we can a lot of our own, and I don’t have time to do that anymore!” she laughs, adding, “buying them is much nicer!”
Between her new album and new TV show, how can a mom like Jewel find a spare minute to make it to the table daily for family meals? “If you can spend less time preparing the food and more time sitting around to actually eat together just for a half hour I think that’s a great goal.”
Aside from focusing on being her new son that her and hubby, Ty Murray, are expecting this summer, Jewel has announced that she will be hosting and judging a new Bravo series titled Platinum Hit.
She explains to OK!: “We’re looking for the next great songwriting talent. So it’s not a singing competition, it’s not voted on by America.” Jewel will be joined by Kara Dioguardi on the judging panel and she tells us this is an industry that hasn’t been exposed to much of America. “It’s a world a lot of people don’t know about. But these people make a lot of money. They make millions and millions of dollars off of a single song that can take you two hours to write.”
What baby wouldn’t love a custom made album from their Grammy nominated mommy? Jewel tells OK! she’s been working on a children’s album that she’s written especially for her son.
“I wrote it for my baby! I wrote it here in my house and I produced it myself.” she says, “So it’s music that hopefully the kids will really like and adults will like as well and not cringe when their kids are playing it.” How could anybody cringe to that voice!
