When we spotted Pia Mia at the Kids Choice Awards on Saturday we had to get a few minutes with the Interscope recording artist to get the details on her upcoming debut album, which she’s currently working on. The songstress and social media maven offers up some inside scoop on what to expect from the disc and who she’s listening to right now.
OK!: What will your debut album be like?
Pia Mia: I’m working on my album now. I’m doing rhythmic pop so some of the songs lean more urban, some of the songs lean more pop and then some of them are stripped down ballads. The single should be out in the next month or two. I can’t wait to put a full album out. I’m about to film a music video for a song called “On My Mind” that I released in my EP over Christmas. It’s going to be really fun.
OK!: How do you come up with ideas for your songs?
PM: I’m not inspired by one single person. I’m inspired by my life and by things that I’ve gone through or something my family has gone through or one of my close friends. I try to sing about things that I’ve seen someone go through or my personal experience just because I like to know what I’m talking about. I just like to be really honest in my music so most of my songs are directly from my journal.
OK!: You have such a unique style, who is your fashion inspiration?
PM: For my fashion inspiration I honestly look at the homeless to see what they’re wearing. But for me I don’t necessarily shop at a lot of high end stores. I like to shop at thrift stores. I like to find cool pieces that are not something you can find anywhere. I don’t think price means anything in fashion. If you feel good in it and it looks dope on you then it’s dope.
OK!: Who are you listen to right now?
PM: I’m listening to this song “Stay High” by Hippie Sabotage. I just found it. That’s amazing. I’m listening to Rick Ross’ new album. I’m always on Chris Brown’s Pandora honestly. If you go to Pandora and type in Chris Brown it’s the best music.
