Singer Taylor Swift was excited to bring cancer patient Kevin McGuire to Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards as her date, but new reports reveal that the 18-year-old unfortunately had to cancel on the country star as he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday.
“Just talked to Kevin McGuire. He's not well enough to join me at the ACMs. Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll make it up to you, Kevin!” Taylor tweeted on Saturday of the disappointing news.
Kevin’s sister Victoria McGuire announced that he was “devastated” to be absent for the Las Vegas awards show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Facebook.
“As we should all live by the moto 'live for today' a cancer patient feels the impact of these words far to hard. We appreciate everything you have done for us, and we know you are all hurt from this too. Please continue to pray for Kevin and his health, because that is the most important thing,” the post read.
Victoria had initially campaigned for Taylor to take Kevin to prom on Facebook, according to Billboard, but the 22-year-old instead offered the ACM Awards due to scheduling conflicts.
The "Fifteen" singer is currently on her way to the big show, unfortunately without Kevin by her side.
“Headed to Vegas for the ACMs! Feel like voting for Entertainer of the Year?” Taylor tweeted today.
