Orange is the New Black is returning on June 6, but to help you along for that date so faaaaar in the future, get a load of this fun news! Cast member Jackie Cruz, who plays Flaca, just signed with music rights organization BMI, which also represents Rihanna and Pink.
“I’m excited to have my music overseen by BMI,” Cruz exclusively tells OKMagazine.com. “They’re an amazing music family to be part of, as they’ve been the parents to many legends that I look up to.” This isn’t Jackie’s foray into the music industry—her video for the song “Like a Drug” received play on MTV in 2010.
“Revamping my music career with BMI has been a blessing ,and I’m excited to start writing music and sharing it with the world soon,” says Cruz. At the big day at the BMI offices, Cruz paid homage to her Flaca character with a Chicana fashion look. She wore a scarf headpiece designed by Vanessa Mooney (check it out here) along with her mother’s vintage leather jacket from the ’80s.
Keep an ear out for new music from Jackie Cruz, and be sure to tune in for the premiere of Orange Is the New Black on Netflix on June 6!
