Do you have a favorite dress? It could be your poofy princess prom gown that could only ever be appropriate at such an adolescent occasion. Then there's your birthday dress, a little number that screams, "Hey, look! I'm another year older but still incredibly cute." And if you've been lucky enough to find the right man, there's your wedding dress—a white frock that brings happy tears to your eyes.

Dresses are important, and Erin McKean reminds us even more of that little fact in her new book, The Hundred Dresses: The Most Iconic Styles of Our Time. The author compiled a novel of 100 pretty numbers with extensive descriptions of who wore 'em, when, and what accessories to don on the side.
