In a new interview, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi from MTV’s controversial reality hit Jersey Shore shares her story of how she overcame an eating disorder and how’s she doing now after being propelled into the spotlight.

“I would only eat a cracker or a cucumber a day,” Snooki tells The Insider. “In high school, I really wouldn’t eat. I would only have lunch, and I would only have salads. It got so crazy that I would only eat a cracker or a cucumber a day and I would feel full.

“I would go into the nurse’s office every day and I would weigh myself. When she [the nurse] realized that I hit eighty pounds, she was like, this isn’t good.”

Snooki explains how the school nurse told her parents of her eating disorder which helped her take control of health.

“My parents told me, you need to eat, this is very dangerous,” she says. “So I gained my weight back to like 98 where I always was.”

Her new celebrity status since appearing on Jersey Shore has had an impact on her family as well.

“My mom is pretty upset about what she sees obviously as well my dad,” she says. “I did warn them that a couple nights I got out of hand.”

“You probably would never guess that I used to go to church every week growing up and I was actually an altar girl,” she reveals.

One reason her parents may be surprised by her behavior on the shore?

“You probably would never guess that I used to go to church every week growing up and I was actually an altar girl.”
