Who knew? Billie Lourd sent her fans into a frenzy on Thursday, September 24, when she revealed some VERY big news — she gave birth to a baby boy with her fiancé, Austen Rydell.
The 27-year-old actress and daughter of Carrie Fisher, had kept her pregnancy under wraps, with fans clueless that she had a baby on the way.
The baby boy’s name, Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell, pays tribute to her beloved mom.
Baby Kingston’s clothing also seemed to pay tribute to his grandma as he donned a black outfit with moons and stars, perhaps a nod to Star Wars, in which Carrie played Princess Leia. Lourd followed in her footsteps by portraying Lieutenant Connix in Episode VIII — The Last Jedi and Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker.
Lourd’s uncle Todd Fisher told E! News he was thrilled about the adorable moniker. “I was very touched Billie chose to honor her mother by naming her son Kingston Fisher. It was very unexpected. Billie has been known as Billie Lourd her whole life. It is a very loving thing to give that homage back to Carrie,” he said.
The new mom is said to be doing very well and has handled the pregnancy great. Though her extended family has not had a chance to be together because of COVID-19, they are looking forward to meeting Kingston soon.
Lourd has been dating Rydell, 28, since 2016. The two called it quits at one point but reunited soon after, and in June, it was revealed that the pair had gotten engaged.
Born into a Hollywood acting dynasty with Debbie Reynolds as her grandmother, the Booksmart actress suffered the ultimate heartbreak when she lost both of them within a day of each other. Reynolds died following a stroke on December 28, 2016 — just one day after the death of her daughter, Fisher.
On Mother’s Day, Lourd paid tribute to the Star Wars icon, taking to Instagram to write a touching post.

✨💞✨Sending my love to anyone who has lost a mother and anyone who might just be having a complicated Mother’s Day this year. This is my 4th Mother’s Day without my Momby and days like today are never easy, but I’ve found that doing things that make me feel more connected to her make it a little easier – watching her favorite movies, listening to music we listened to together, looking through old pictures and my personal favorite – eating + drinking things she loved. (Today I’m going to watch Postcards from The Edge, listen to Tom Petty + Dire Straits, have a fried mozzarella from La Scala and have a couple Coca-Colas with an aggressive amount of ice). Happy Mother’s Day, but Mother’s Day can be more than just one adjective, so sad Mother’s Day / weird Mother’s Day / funny Mother’s Day / angry Mother’s Day / or any combination of the above. ❤️
Lourd, who is the daughter of Fisher and Bryan Lourd, has previously spoken about her childhood with the famous actress.
“I grew up with three parents: a mom, a dad and Princess Leia,” Lourd wrote in an essay for Time magazine in November 2019. “I guess Princess Leia was kind of like my stepmom — technically family, but deep down I didn’t really like her … When Leia was around, there wasn’t as much room for my mom — for Carrie.”
Now, with the addition of her baby boy, Lourd should be surrounded by the love she so deserves after a heartbreaking few years.
Congrats to the happy couple!
