Across the Universe

An ambitious task — turning the works of the Beatles into a big-screen musical — partially succeeds. Take it for what it is: campy fun. The visuals get a little wacky, but the singing is lovely and you’ll be entranced by newcomer Sturgess as Jude, a Liverpudlian who winds up in the U.S. during the turbulent ’60s.
