Beyoncé: I Wrote The Saddest Song After Suffering Miscarriage

Beyoncé has bravely opened up for the first time about the heartbreak she felt when she suffered a miscarriage a few years ago.

The Single Ladies star is now proud mom to one-year-old daughter Blue Ivy with husband Jay-Z.  The rapper had hinted about the sadness in the track Glory that he lay down just days after welcoming their little girl.

But in her new HBO documentary, Life Is But A Dream, Bey talks candidly about her loss.

"About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time," the 31-year-old singer shared. "And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life."

"I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like… I was feeling very maternal."

But she says things didn't work out and it all happened so quickly.

"I flew back to New York to get my check up — and no heartbeat," Bey revealed. "Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat."

And she said she turned to her love of music to help her through the difficult time.

"I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life," she said without naming the tune.

"And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album. And its was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through."

But a while later when she found out she was expecting again, it brought her the biggest joy.

"Being pregnant was very much like falling in love," she smiled. "You are so open. You are so overjoyed. There's no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you, so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone."

And tell everyone she did, in the most unique way, when she showed her bump for the first time after performing Love On Top at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011.
