Leading up to today’s big Oscar soiree, celebrities got a head start on the awards show circuit at the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on a very windy Saturday afternoon.
Despite the chilly weather, stars like Kerry Washington, Rosario Dawson, Eva Mendes, Michelle Trachtenberg, Naomi Watts, Jaime Foxx, Ben Stiller, Nicole Kidman, Melissa Leo, John Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, Erika Christensen and more bundled up in warm jackets to hit the red carpet before the show.
A pregnant Natalie Portman braved the weather in an adorable yellow frock and luckily for her, Black Swan stole the show with a plethora of wins.
The expecting mom took home a trophy for Best Actress in the ballet film, with celebrated three other wins for cinematography, directing and the award of the night – Best Feature!

James Franco, who is set to host tonight’s Academy Awards with beauty Anne Hathaway, took home the prize for Lead Actor in 127 Hours.
While the actor was excited about his big win, he also talked to reporters backstage about getting ready for his hosting gig tonight!
“I’m feeling pretty good. They’ve been going on for 83 years. I am kind of joining a bigger apparatus, so it’s going to be pretty familiar in some ways but I think it’ll be fun. They’re telling us to relax, they’re not stretching us into some mold that we don’t fit.”

And despite all of the excitement brewing on the beach, it was a good thing that Jameson Irish Whiskey was on hand throughout the day to warm everyone up a tad! Just too bad that mom-to-be Natalie Portman couldn't indulge in a cocktail. She warmed up with a parka inside of the tented venue instead.
