Bobby Brown: "I Didn't Get High Before I Met Whitney"

Bobby Brown is slated to appear on the Today show with Matt Lauer on Wednesday and Thursday for a big two-part special about his late ex-wife Whitney Houston and interviews with his fiancée and three of his children.

Bobby, not known for a pristine image, has made plenty of bad-boy headlines throughout his life. He's been arrested for driving under the influence, marijuana possession, resisting arrest, lewd behavior and misdemeanor battery. After watching Whitney and Bobby stumble through their 2005 reality show, Being Bobby Brown, many who'd idolized Whitney as a golden girl blamed Bobby for her downfall.

Not so fast, he says.

"I didn't get high on narcotics before I met Whitney... I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all.... I'm not the reason she's gone," he told Lauer.

Regardless of being arrested on charges of driving under the influence in March, Bobby swears he's been off narcotics for seven years and had no idea Whitney was still struggling with addiction.

"It's a hard fight," Brown told Lauer. "It's a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way. From what I feel and you know, how I saw her, the last time I saw her, it had to be that particular day. You know, it had to be that one, because that's all it takes … One hit, you know, and you know."
