Thursday morning's sunrise announcement of the major Oscar nominations was simultaneously predictable, with oodles of nods to end-of-year, awards-bait films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt and The Reader — and a handful of genuine surprises, like Robert Downey, Jr.'s inclusion for his role in Tropic Thunder and for The Dark Knight's absence from all major categories except Heath Ledger for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Brad Pitt's Benjamin Button ruled over all nominees, with 13 in total, including a nod to the title hunk and to Taraji P. Henson in the Supporting Actress category and one for the film's director, David Fincher.

“This is a great honor for the movie," the actor told Extra. "I'm especially happy for David Fincher, for without him there would be no Ben Button.”

It's got to be a happy morning in the Brangelina household, as Brad's babymama Angelina Jolie was also recognized for her work in the Clint Eastwood-directed film Changeling. This is Angie's first nomination since her Supporting Actress win inn 2000 for Girl, Interrupted.

While it didn't score the most nominations, Doubt stands to rake in three out of four acting awards on Feb. 22, with Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis all nominated.

Animated feature Wall-E had been on many critics' year-end lists of best films, but the Pixar film was left out of the Best Picture category, though it did score nominations in Best Animated Feature and Best Original Screenplay.
