With the huge success of Bridesmaids, it's really not surprising that Universal is considering cashing in on a sequel. But it is surprising that the sequel could happen without Kristen Wiig!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen, who co-wrote Bridesmaids with Annie Mumolo, said she wouldn't do a Bridesmaids 2.

"We aren't working on that," she said. "Annie and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else."

But Universal is planning a sequel.

"We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right," a rep for Universal said. "We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward."

Bridesmaids was produced for $32 million and grossed $288 million worldwide. The six main cast members (Kristen, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper and Wendi McLendon-Covey) were each only given a $100,000 bonus after the success.

Producer Judd Apatow told THR, "We don't want to do it unless it can be great. I don't think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this year."

Kristen, who is busy working on many other projects, reportedly met with Universal chief Ron Meyer to discuss a sequel and her paycheck, but she hasn't budged.

Would you still watch a Bridesmaids 2 without Kristen or do you think the "fun" would never arrive without her?
