Chace Crawford Cuts Loose From 'Footloose'

Chace Crawford is taking off his dancing shoes and cutting himself loose from the Footloose remake.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Chace's rep has confirmed Chace will no longer be playing the role made famous by Kevin Bacon.

EW sources say Chace's busy Gossip Girl schedule may be the source to blame for him backing out of the role. Shooting for GG resumes in July and production of Footloose was set to start this summer.

Before Chace, Zac Efron was tied to the role, but he also backed out. And those aren't the only problems this film has had already.

Kenny Ortega dropped the film due to being too "exhausted" from his work with Michael Jackson's This is It.

Then the studio backed out on the film rewrite by screenwriter Susannah Grant and went with writer/director Graig Brewer's instead.

But, for now, Dancing With the Stars alum Julianne Hough is still set to play former Lori Singer's character, the lead's love interest.

As for Chace's role, EW sources say the studio may start a nationwide search for the part.
