'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Double Elimination Sends Former Champs Drew Lachey & Helio Castroneves Home

Once again, the couples with the lowest scores found themselves safe to dance another day last night. Instead, two of the Dancing With the Stars former champions were sent packing in a shocking double elimination results hour.
Drew Lachey and Helio Castroneves received the lowest combined totals for the judges’ scores and the viewer votes.
Sent home halfway through the show, Drew looked honestly shocked, but it’s obvious that he and Anna Trebunskaya just didn’t seem to connect with the fans watching at home.
“I can honestly say I wouldn’t change a thing,” the 98 Degrees boy bander said. “We had a great time and I had an amazing partner.”
On the other hand, Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were quite relieved after their low judges’ scores put in jeopardy alongside the Season 2 winner.
When Helio’s departure from the show was announced, he took the time to thank everyone for a wonderful time on the All Star season. Was it the trip up on Chelsie Hightower’s dress that cost him viewer votes?
Poor Sabrina Bryan hasn’t seemed to get over her Season 9 elimination and was very nervous about ending up in jeopardy with the Season 5 champion, but luck was on her side last night. Or was it the viewers?
The encore dance of the night went to Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough’s Quickstep – and it was just as sweet the second time around. As the band looked down on the duo after their leap from the stairs, host Tom Bergeron joked, “Unfortunately, we only rented the crash pads for last night.”

The biggest challenge so far that will “shake the competition to its core,” will be next week’s performances. Each DWTS couple picked a dance for another All Star duo. Here are the results:
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas chose Bollywood for Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd.
Kirstie and Maks chose Disco for Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke.
Helio and Chelsie chose Mambo for Shawn and Derek.
Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy chose Bolero for Emmitt and Cheryl.
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani chose Hip-Hop for Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff.
Apolo and Karina chose Jitterbug for Melissa and Tony.
Emmitt and Cheryl chose Contemporary for Kelly and Val.
Sabrina and Louis van Amstel chose the Charleston for Kirste and Maks.
And Bristol and Mark were left with Rock & Roll.
While everyone seemed pretty game for next week’s challenge, Kirstie and Maks were clearly worried about Sabrina and Louis’ decision. Looks like the fun has only begun on DWTS…
