Gucci proves there's more to the iconic fashion house than simply gorgeous designer clothes with Chime For Change, an organization calling for the empowerment of girls and women globally.

Beyonce Knowles and Salma Hayek are on Chime's founding committee, along with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, and their advisory board boasts members like Madonna, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep.

In July Chime launched its storytelling platform, a space to highlight tales of courageous females. It kicked off with five short films, including this one titled Reaching For the Sun about 30 grandmothers chosen from remote areas to be trained as solar engineers so that they may return home and solar power their villages.

“We will shine a spotlight on those who are fighting for education, health and justice for girls and women by sharing stories about real people who are speaking out and rising up to change the course of history,” says Salma, who serves as the Executive Producer of the Chime For Change film unit. “These films tell intimate, personal stories—but these stories represent universal themes. And now we can all play a part by turning inspiration into action.”
