With controversy over the lack of public affection between Modern Family’s same-sex married characters Cameron and Mitchell, co-star Ed O’Neill speaks out on the matter.

“Oh, that's so stupid. Who cares? When I hear that, it's half amusing, half annoying,” Ed, who play’s Mitchell’s father on the sitcom, revealed to Pop Eater of the complaints. “The format is, they live together. We assume they have sex. I don't think we need to see it beginning or ending. Who cares? To me, it's boring.”

The 68-year-old claims that it may not be a matter of showing too much of TV between actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, but more about the on-camera couple’s core values.

“First of all, they're the most conservative family of the three. Mitchell is a lawyer, and Cameron is a stay-at-home mom with a baby.

JULIE BOWEN TALKS BREASTFEEDING

On top of that, Ed realizes that he and his on-screen wife Sofia Vergara haven’t even shown any PDA.

“Gloria and I haven't done any making out in the first 24 shows,” Ed explains of his much younger companion.

The former Married with Children star, who saw much buzz over that show's risque content, thinks that it can be more entertaining to leave some things up to the imagination.

JULIE BOWEN'S SONS ARE NOT COMPLEX YET

“It's much, much better to allow people to use their imaginations when they want to, in that regard,” Ed admits, “Otherwise, it turns into a sort of pornography. If people want to be titillated or shocked or, "Oh, wow, they're actually kissing," I mean, who cares?”

NBC’s Modern Family also stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.
