EXCLUSIVE! Phillip Phillips Talks New Album & Which ‘American Idol' He Would Like to Duet With

While most American Idol winners rush to release an album after their reality TV coronation, Phillip Phillips is in no rush – for a good reason! He’s been a busy guy – with the American Idol tour and his performance at Syracuse University’s One World concert earlier this week. The “Home” singer is taking his time to craft the first album since his Idol days whenever he can catch a spare moment to hit the studios.
Phillip gave OK! an album update, revealing he’s been, “mostly writing, not really recording yet.” There are some rough recordings, but the Season 11 champ explained, “I hit the studio hard, like a week or ten days before the tour and I record a lot of sings that I’ve written,” from his time before, during and after Idol.
The fan favorite revealed that fans can look forward to his new album’s release date to fall somewhere in between January and February 2013. While Phillip has remained tight-lipped about the feel of the album, he told OK! it will reflect and feel like, “what I did on the show.” After all, “that’s what people enjoyed and I thought it took me in and they seemed to enjoy that.”
“I’m just aiming for….a similar sound to what I did on the show,” Phillip said. “That raw alternative rock, jazz feel.”

The American Idol tour brought Phillip and his competition back together again, but fortunately for fans of the hit reality TV show, it might not be the only time he performs with past Idols. When OK! asked if there was any Idols he would like to collaborate with, Phillip confessed, “Probably Casey Abrams or Haley Reinhart – maybe sing a duet with her or something.”
Why Haley? Well, as he explains, “her voice is a little jazz, very smooth, and has a sexy kind of feel.” Sounds like reason enough for us!
Do you think Phillip will be the one to break the American Idol winner’s curse in recent years?
