She told E!, "The books are my fantasy. I wrote them for me, really, and the wonderful thing about doing this is they seem to be other peoples' fantasies, so I'm not such a pervert," she laughed.
The erotic novels have been flying off the shelves and a big screen adaption is currently in the works, which the married mom of two still can't believe.
"All this has been a huge shock to me," she said. "When I got the first email asking about the film rights, I nearly fell off my chair; it was a huge Hollywood agency!"

Fans are dying to see her characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey come to life on film, but James will not say who she thinks should play them.
"It gets messy," she said. "You might end up with somebody else other than who I suggested."
The best thing to James about her new found fame is interacting with fans. She said, "I love that it's brought women together especially some women who don't often read books. They read it, and that's fantastic."
While she's currently on a busy book tour, the writer already has another project lined up.
"It's an erotic novel, yes," she revealed. "I want to get it out of my head."
