Walt Disney Studios announced this morning that filming has begun on Maleficent, starring the one and only Angelina Jolie. And Disney even gave us a glimpse at Angie's incredible transformation for her role as the flick's dark and evil villain!

Angelina plays Maleficent, "the mistress of all evil," who was of course featured in the animated Disney classic Sleeping Beauty. This film will tell the story of Sleeping Beauty from her perspective and will reveal "the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora," according to a press release.
Production began June 13 with director Robert Stromberg, producer Joe Roth, writer Linda Woolverton and seven-time Academy Award-winning makeup artist, Rick Baker. Angelina is also an executive producer of the film, along with Don Hahn, Matt Smith and Palak Patel.

Maleficent co-stars Elle Fanning as Aurora, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juo Temple and Lesley Manville.
