Gabrielle "speaks most often in a single word or declarative phrase," but she "has opinions and she makes them known."

She "can stand on her own and walk a little, but is working to improve her gait" and "pushes a grocery cart up and down the hospital halls as therapy."

Katie Couric recently spoke with Gabrielle's husband Mark Kelly about Gabrielle getting approval to attend the final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor this Friday, and her progress.

"And she goes through speech rehabilitation, music; she likes to listen to U2. 'It's a Beautiful Day' is one of her favorite songs, so I think that gets her fired up," Katie reports. "And apparently, it also fires up the brain's ability to recognize words and kind of emotional centers."
