Merely days after ABC made the announcement All My Children and One Life to Live will be sent to soap opera pasture, another one is on the brink of extinction and that's the long-running General Hospital! Katie Couric and ABC television are close to signing a $20 million deal which would likely result in GH's demise.

It looks like Katie will soon have her own talk show and a lot of involvement with ABC News, as reported by TMZ. She will likely have a one hour syndicated talk show during the week which has a probability of landing in the 3 p.m. time slot, thereby bumping GH from its run.

Not departing from news altogether, Katie would do specials for ABC News, 20/20 as well as fill-in work such as anchoring.
