Giuliana and Bill Rancic have revealed that they have banked their newborn's umbilical cord with Cord Blood Registry.

The organization asserts that doing so is a "one time opportunity that can be lifesaving or life-changing" for families and the stem cells saved from the cord can be "the first line of treatment for many of today's incurable diseases."

"For those of you asking, the collection process was so easy! @BillRancic and I are so happy we banked w/ @CordBloodRgstry," Giuliana shared with fans on Friday about Edward Duke's cord.

Cord blood remains in the newborn's umbilical cord after birth which contains valuable stem cells that can be used in a "variety of medical treatments, such as regenerating healthy blood and immune cells after chemotherapy."

Giuliana found out she had breast cancer during testing for another round of IVF leading her to have a double mastectomy to limit the chance of cancer returning.

Baby Duke was born in Colorado where the gestational carrier, who brought him to term, is based but the family are preparing for a road trip to Bill's hometown.

"We're going to go from Colorado to Chicago and then spend September and October in Chicago. And then we'll come back to the West Coast," the proud new papa told Us of the family's plans.
