Although Gwyneth Paltrow's been in the spotlight lately for her new movie, Country Strong, she's making headlines after the tragedy this weekend in Arizona. She's the cousin of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

In a statement to ET Gwyneth explained, "Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence."

As of press time, the congresswoman is in a medically induced coma. Dr. Michael Lemole, the chief of neurosurgery at the University Medical Center in Tucson told Today, "I remain cautiously optimistic....the swelling is still the greatest risk."
